Each year, over half a million people in the United States alone, die from cancer. But when we talk about this dreaded disease, it’s important to keep in mind that several types of cancer exist. While the list virtually spans from A-to-Z, here are some of the most common ones:
1. Breast Cancer.
Breast Cancer has become an epidemic among today’s women. In fact, worldwide it’s the most common type of cancer among women, and in the United States causes the second most cancer deaths among women. But not all the news is bad! Undergoing an annual mammogram can help to detect warning signs of the disease, such as changes in the structure of the breast tissue, and lumps that appear on the breast. The result is that women are generally able to detect the disease much earlier than they did in the past.
Researchers continue to learn more about the causes and effective treatments of breast cancer. They’ve learned that hormones and genes are the primary factors that determine a woman’s likelihood of acquiring the disease. Physicians treat breast cancer based on the variety that the patient has acquired, and how broadly it has spread. Common treatments include hormonal therapy, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy.
